ministries Simpsonwood is divided into 4 Ministry Groups: Administration, Missions and Outreach, Spiritual Development, and Worship. All of our ministries and programs fall into one of the Ministry Groups. There are plenty of opportunities for volunteer involvement at Simpsonwood. The following is a list of some of the special ministries, committees, and activities sponsored by or supported by Simpsonwood UMC: (For contact names or meeting times for any of these activities, please contact the Church Office at 770-441-2181.) Adult Bible Study: Wednesdays, 7:00-8:00pm. Led by our Associate Pastor, Rev. Keith Lawder Brownie, Daisy and Girl Scouts: Currently, 7 Brownie, Daisy, and Girl Scout troops meet at Simpsonwood UMC. Building Committee: This committee was formed in 2000, to address parking needs and the future building plans for the Education/Family Life Center, with the goal of developing an entire campus plan. Children's Task Force: Works with the Director of Children's Ministries to build on God's work in or midst by planning for and providing opportunities for children to learn about, serve, and enjoy God. Church Work Days: Coordinated by the Trustee committee, these are one or two days per year where volunteers come together to perform special maintenance activities on our buildings and grounds. Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts: Simpsonwood UMC is proud to sponsor one Boy Scout and two Cub Scout troops. Community Thanksgiving Service: Christian churches in the Peachtree Corners area come together to celebrate our blessings and gifts. The location of the service rotates each year. Counseling and Pastoral Care: Both the Senior Pastor, Dr. Laurence McCullough, and our Associate Pastor, Rev. Keith Lawder are available for counseling and pastoral care, by appointment. Evangelism Committee: Works to encourage an evangelistic attitude among the congregation, and to establish and implement programs that reach out to the community to introduce Simpsonwood as a place to worship and grow spiritually. Fellowship Dinners: Please join with others in our church family for food and fellowship at our family dinners, Wednesday evenings at 6:00 in the Fellowship Hall. (Sign-up is requested by Tuesday morning of that week.) Potlucl dinners, barbecue lunches, and other catered dinners are held throughout the year. Finance Committee: The Finance Committee oversees all of the finances of the church, including budget preparation, arranging financing, and approval of major expenditures. Their decisions are made in conjunction with the staff and Administrative Council, and support approved church-wide objectives. Homecoming: This revival-style weekend in February features a guest speaker, evening services, great music, and fellowship dinners. All those who have worshiped with us in the past receive special invitations, so its also a great opportunity to catch up with old friends. Ladies Summer Bible Study: Ladies form our church and community come together each week on Tuesday mornings to grow in faith through Bible study. Childcare is provided. Long Range Planning Committee: Gathers data, develops and maintains long range plans for Simpsonwood UMC that reflect church goals as set by the Administrative Council. Consolidates and evaluates committee goals for consistency with church goals, and to ensure that church goals are being met. Missions Committee: Works to support a mission-minded environment at Simpsonwood UMC. This committee prepares recommendations for the level and use of Mission funds at Simpsonwood. MOMS (Mothers Offering Mothers Support) Club: This national support group for at-home mothers, as well as those who work out of their homes and/or part-time, offers the opportunity to share activities during the day with other moms and their children. It is a non-profit organization, which also participates in service projects throughout the year to benefit children in our community. Moms-In-Touch: There is a separate interdenominational group of mothers associated with each of the area schools, who meet once a week to pray for their school, teachers, students, administration, and school board issues. Prayer requests are welcome. Moms-In-Touch, College Age Kids:An outgrowth of Moms-In-Touch, this is a group of mothers who gather together weekly to pray for their children in college and their educators. Many colleges are represented are represented in a single group. Musical Programs: Two choral cantatas, children's musicals, and special seasonal music programs are some of the ways that music is integrated into our worship experience. Additionally, choir tours, camps, and/or festivals are available for choir members of all ages. New Member Assimilation Committee: The role of this committee is to plan and implement activities to integrate new members into our church life, including the preparation and distribution of New Member Resource packets, and hosting New Member Orientation lunches and dinners. Office Volunteers: This special group of volunteers commits to one or more mornings per month to assist the office staff with collating and preparing bulletins, newsletters, and other mailings; straightening up the Sanctuary; running errands; and other miscellaneous chores. Parent Advisory Board: This board of representative parents of SUMC youth meets with the Youth Directors to create a vision and direction for our Youth Ministry. It also provides guidelines and ideas for new policies and activities, and creates a line of communication between parents of youth and the Youth Ministry staff. Parenting Seminars: Simpsonwood UMC periodically presents special programs and guest speakers addressing relevant themes related to raising children in a Christian environment. Prayer and Care Warriors: At Simpsonwood, we believe in the power of prayer. Come pray with the Pray Warriors, Mondays at 10:00am in the church library, or submit a prayer request at the church office. The Care Warriors coordinate meals, chores, and visits to members of our family of faith at special times of need. S.C.R.E.A.M.: Students Celebrating and Rejoicing Enthusiastically in the Almighty Messiah. This interdenominational ministry to 4th and 5th graders who attend Simpson Elementary School, meets once a week in the fall and in the spring, before school, at Jones Bridge Park. The kids enjoy donuts, energetic Christian music, games, and devotions, while forming solid Christian friendships to carry with them to Middle School. Staff Pastor Parish Committee: The mission of this committee is to provide support, feedback, and recognition to each staff member so that they can build and maintain the excellent programs and ministries of Simpsonwood UMC. Stewardship Committee: This committee coordinates the annual drive to encourage parishioners to pledge therir prayers, their presence, their gifts, and their service. Trustees: This committee plans and implements those projects required to keep the buildings and grounds of Simpsonwood UMC a safe and beautiful place to worship. Ushers and Greeters: Ushers assist in the distribution of Sunday buoletins, accommodate special seating requirements, and assist with the collection of the offering. Greeters warmly welcome our members and visitors before each service and provide visitor information and assistance. Wedding Advisory Committee: This committee works with the Senior Pastor and Bridal parties to schedule and plan weddings held at Simpsonwood UMC. Additionally, this committee monitors and updates any needs of the Bridal Room and Upper Room. Worship Committee: The Spiritual Nuture and Worship Task Force plans and coordinates aspects of our worship and Christian education to provide experiences that are joyful celebrations of our faith and offer praise to God. This committee also seeks to provide a place of prayer and spiritual nurture that encourages and supports each in their faith walk. |
